Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has appealed to President Droupadi Murmu to intervene and restore law and order in West Bengal, alleging the state is in an “anarchic condition.” In his letter, Chowdhury cited poll-related violence and attacks on party workers during this year's general elections, painting a dire picture of the state's current situation.
Chowdhury, who leads the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee, expressed deep anguish over the "ruthless approach" of the ruling party towards opposition supporters. He stated that this aggressive stance has resulted in the loss of innocent lives, imprisonment, and other forms of victimization of those opposed to the ruling dispensation.
In his two-page letter, Chowdhury emphasized that individuals not affiliated with the ruling party have lost jobs or livelihoods due to the "strongarm tactics" employed by the state's current leadership. He called for the President’s intervention to bring back civility and order to public life in West Bengal.
He also referred to the ‘Sandeshkali incident’ and clashes in Murshidabad district before the Lok Sabha elections and alleged that these were done “to polarise the voters”.
